Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick England Rowan-Robinson was born in Woolwich, London in 1878 and entered the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Lieutenant in 1901, quickly seeing active service in South Africa, where he was present in operations in Cape Colony and the Orange River Colony 1901-02. Gaining advancement to Captain in 1904, while serving in India, he was transferred to Bermuda in 1912, in which year he was promoted to Major. During the Great War he commanded No. 136 Field Ambulance between 1916-17 and No. 5 Stationary Hospital between 1918-19, and was advanced to Lieutenant-Colonel and Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 10.7.1919 refers). Rowan-Robinson was placed on Half-Pay as a result of ill-health in 1922.
