Lot Essay

Sold with the recipient's original 'Antarctica' photograph album; a Discovery II presentation certificate for services between 1933-39, signed by 'Dufferin and Ava'; a copy of The London Gazette announcing the award of his Polar Medal; and one or two official letters, including Admiralty notification of his retirement from the Sea Cadet Corps (dated 7.10.1953).

Sub. Lieutenant Albert Edward Morris served as a Wireless Telegraphist in the Royal Research Ship Discovery II between 1933-39 and spent seven seasons, including winter voyages, in Antarctica. Afterwards commissioned into the "Wavy Navy", Morris retired from his post with the Sea Cadet Corps in late 1953.
