Lot Essay

Brevet Colonel Arthur William Henry Drummond-Hay was born in May 1862, eldest son of Colonel Hon. Charles Rowley Drummond-Hay, and was educated at Eton. Onetime an Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment, he served in the Great War as C.O. of the 2nd/6th (the Perthshire) Battalion, the Black Watch and was given the Brevet of Colonel on 1.1.1918. Heir presumptive to the Earldom of Kinnoull, Drummond-Hay served variously as a J.P. for Perthshire, Suffolk and Wiltshire, and was Lord of the Manor of Ashton Keynes in the latter county. Also an Ensign in the Royal Company of Archers, the King's Bodyguard of Scotland, he died in July 1953.
