General Sir James Wallace Sleigh, [K.C.B.], enjoyed a long and illustrious career, first seeing active service as a young Cornet in Holland in 1795 and latterly as a Commander of the Cavalry at the siege of Bhurtpoor in 1825. Also a veteran of the Peninsular War, he served at Waterloo as a Lieutenant-Colonel and was appointed to the command of the 4th Brigade towards the close of the day. Latterly Military Secretary to Lord Bentinck and Colonel-in-Chief of the 9th Lancers, he died at Hanworth House, Middlesex in February 1865.
