A rare large-scale painted wooden farm
with three straw-roofed buildings including a manor house with yellow and brown painted leaf frieze, a shepherd's caravan, six wood shaving trees, finely carved and painted wooden animals and figures comprising seven standing and two sitting cows, three standing and one sitting horses, six sheep and sheepdog with gilt Dresden collars, three goats and six figures on stands, one woman carrying a book, another a pail and the farmer with his stick, in original wooden box marked December 6th, 1849, German -- the manor house 13in. (33cm.) high and the figures 6in. (15cm.) high (some minor damages and repairs)

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.

Lot Essay

This toy is of a larger scale and superior quality than is normally found. Many of the characteristics of the painting are found on Noah's Arks and menageries of the period. The animals are individually carved and not ring turned.

The 6th of December is of course Saint Nicholas night when many children recieved their Christmas gifts.
