It is described in The Truthful Lens as including a pantheon of France's worthies in art, literature, music, politics and science, photographed by well known photographers in Paris. The sitters in these eight volumes include Manet, Maillet, Hugo, Mac-Mahon, George Sand, Sarah Bernhardt, Zola, Rossini, Verdi, Baudelaire, Dumas, Jules Verne and many others.
