Lot Essay

Roger Mayne photographed in one street in Kensington, Southam Street (now demolished) for five years from 1956 to 1961. This image was much reproduced in the late 1950s and early 1960s and a print of the image was included in the exhibition 'Subjektive' organised by Otto Steinert in Saarbrucken in 1958. The exhibition prints were later donated to the Museum Folkwang, Essen, which toured a second exhibition of the same name in 1984-86.
