Lot Essay

H.M.S. Ambuscade, 640 tons, was a 32-gun frigate built at Deptford and launched on 17th September 1773. After service in the American War of Independence, she was captured by the French on 14th December 1798, retaken by H.M.S. Victory - with Lord Nelson aboard - for the Royal Navy on 28th May 1803 and broken up at Deptford in 1810.
