Suzanne-Victoire Dupuy-Montbrun d'Aubignac de Rozières married in 1787, the year the present miniature was painted, Jean Tarteyron de Saint-Rémi, a wealthy negociant from Bordeaux and owner of several castles.
The miniaturist Magol was born in Lyons and came to Bordeaux about 1780. His hostility towards Marat led him directly to the guillotine. His shortened lifetime explains J. Du Pasquier's (op. cit., p. 23) statement: 'Ses oeuvres sont malheureusement très rares.'
