Oval box, the cover and base centred with a basket of flowers enamelled en basse-taille with translucent blue, green and orange on a polished gold ground, within a scalloped engraved rim, within a reeded gold border enamelled with a champlevé translucent blue ruffled ribbon pattern, the reeded sides similarly enamelled with interlacing rings enclosing translucent green enamelled swirling rosettes, the upper and lower borders of the sides enamelled in translucent blue champlevé with a Greek key pattern

Nicolas Allain, the son of a maître parfumeur, was born about 1725 and died in 1787. Works by his hand are extremely rare.
