by Pierre-François-Mathis de Beaulieu (fl. 1768-1791), marked, Paris, 1777/1778, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache, struck with inventory number 360, the flange engraved 'Ve George Beaulieu a Paris'
Octagonal box, the panels on cover, sides, corners and base enamelled in translucent coral-colour on a peaked guilloché ground, framed by white enamel stripes flanked by reeded gold bands, within frosted gold borders applied with trailing stylized lotus flowers, the side pilasters chased as fluted pillars

Lot Essay

In December 1765, Madame Georges, the widow of the celebrated goldsmith Jean Georges, advertised continuing her late husband's business with his sole apprentice, Pierre-François-Mathis de Beaulieu. In February 1778, this maison de commerce was called Ve Georges, Beaulieu et Guenet.
