A SWISS VARI-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH AN ENAMEL MINIATURE
with rubbed prestige marks, possibly Geneva, circa 1780/1800, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Oval box, the panels on cover, sides and base engine-turned with wavy reeding forming a diaper pattern, within reeded borders, the lid set with an oval convex enamel miniature depicting the abduction of Helen of Troy, within a reeded gold frame, the frosted gold borders and four side dividers boldly chased with foliage alternating with flowerheads interspersed by four-colour gold flowersprays, the inside of the lid engraved with a long list of names in Cyrillic
