A GEORGE II GILT GLASS AND PARCEL-ENAMELLED GOLD CAGEWORK NÉCESSAIRE
English, circa 1750/1760
Rectangular foiled blue glass box, all ten glass panels painted in gold with rural landscape scenes, the gold cagework mounts stamped and embossed with reeded c-scrolls, rocaille and shells, the lower border of the hinged cover enamelled in white with a wavy band inscribed in gold L'AMOUR SURMONTE TOUT OBSTACLE, rosette-shaped circular pushpiece inset with pink stones, the inside of the cover fitted with a mirror and lined with purple velvet, the inside of the base fitted for nine implements (two missing) including a pair of gold-capped cut glass bottles with glass stoppers, two-leaved tablets, a gold-capped pencil with gold extension handle, gold ear-spoon with incorporated steel bodkin and bag-shaped gold-painted blue glass patch-box with reeded gold mounts
