A CONTINENTAL GOLD-MOUNTED CORAL VINAIGRETTE
possibly Italian, circa 1820/1840, struck with an illegible mark
Red coral vinaigrette with oval base, the lower part carved with a mask of Bacchus surrounded by scrolls, on the right hand end, and with a pair of eagles looking backwards perched on branches, on the left hand end, beaded upper and lower borders, the hinged lid carved with the head of a troll with long hair flanked by two mirrored sea-monsters, the reeded gold mounts decorated with a pair of intertwined snakes at both ends, the hinged grille pierced and chased with foliage covering the gold-lined base
