by Antoine Bénard (fl. 1766-1790), marked, Paris, 1773/1774, with the charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre, later struck with the 'petite recense' mark for Paris 1798-1809
Oval box, the cover, sides and base boldly chased with vertical long polished flutes alternating with short polished flutes within fluted gold bands, the frosted gold borders stamped with leaves and rosebuds
