Lot Essay

Leopoldo di Cosimo II of Medici (1617-1675) was Governor of Siena 1636-1641 and 1643-1644, Cardinal in 1667 and received the purple in Rome in 1674.
This is after the painting by Tiberio Titi of 1617 in the Palazzo Pitti, illustrated in K. Langedijk, The Portraits of the Medici, Florence 1983, II, p. 1113, no. 68,19.
