A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD BONBONNIERE
by Georges Rémond & Co., marked, Geneva, circa 1800, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Circular box, the independent cover, sides and base enamelled with translucent blue on an engine-turned wavy ground within opaque white enamel borders, the cover centred with an oval reserve bordered by gold paillon leaves, surmounted by beckoning doves and hung with floral swags in gold paillons, the central reserve painted with an exhausted Maenad in white shift and leopard's skin, holding a tambourine and resting ashore, the base scattered with gold paillon dots around a floral centre; blue translucent enamel borders adorned with bright blue and gold paillons
