The reverse of the frame is engraved 'Willoughby, 4th Earl of Abingdon' but the 4th Earl (1740-1799) married Charlotte (d. 1794), daughter of Admiral Sir Peter Warren in 1768. They had three sons and one daughter. The eldest son, Montagu (1780-1854) succeeded his father as 5th Earl and Willoughby, the second son (b. 1787) became a captain in the Navy and was wrecked in the Satellite off the Goodwin Sands in 1810.
