Lot Essay

The present work is the second version of the now lost Triumph der Natur, painted in 1845. A similar watercolour of the same subject, entitled Parklandschaft mit See, and executed in 1847, is in the Museum der Bildende Künste, Leipzig.

There are two further preparatory drawings, one for the motif of the balustrade, and another for the statues of the horn-blowers.
