An unusual French gilt-brass petite sonnerie carriage clock with alarm
No. 10283. Circa 1885
The tapering case in the Egyptian revival style, with two-tone gilt and silvered side panels raised in low relief with Egyptian figures and pseudo hieroglyphics, with conforming decoration to the solid rear door, the dial with Egyptian figures seated beneath palms to each side, with white enamel Arabic chapter ring and alarm disc below, black painted spade hands, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to the bimetallic balance with lever escapement, with strike/repeat/alarm on two gongs to the backplate numbered 10283, with two position sonnerie adjustment lever to the underside and repeat number to the base plate; case re-gilt
