The following is an extract from Oliver Baker's forward, in his book on the subject Black Jacks and Leather Bottells, Jan 1921, describing the first time he saw a black jack ''......the singular but delicious contour, the rich surface of the leather worn to a silky smoothness round the handle, came to me as a revelation, the thrill of which is even now quite unforgettable''.
