The socket supported on a double baluster shaft, above a drip-tray with cup-shaped stem, over the stepped base intersected with further integral drip tray

Lot Essay

A similar candlestick sold Christie's Great Rooms, The Lear Collection, 15 December 1998, lot 53. The present example is refered to as a 'chalice and paten' type, due to the unusual cup-shaped section of the stem which supports the upper drip tray.
