Comparison can be made with the decoration of this teapot and a lacquered copper wine cistern illustrated in Rupert Gentle and Rachel Field's book Domestic Metalwork 1640-1820, page 45, figure 18, from the Duke of Beaufort's collection. Further comparisons can be made by examining the patterns from John Stalker and George Parker's Treatise of Japanning and Varnishing, 1688.
