The present watercolour relates closely to a series of watercolours and drawings of pregnant young girls executed by Schiele in 1910. Examples are or have been housed in the collections of the late Serge Sabarsky, the Miyagi Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan and the Rudolph Staechelin'sche Familienstiftung, Basle.

The same model seems to have been used by Klimt on several of these occasions most notably in a fine watercolour and charcoal recorded as Kallir 540 where the model is wearing an open shirt but is not depicted wearing purple stockings.

Jane Kallir and Dr. Rudolph Leopold have kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work.
