On the recommendation of John F. Kennedy, Raymond Loewy began to design for NASA in 1962. In 1969, he became a 'habitability consultant', working primarily on interior designs for the Saturn-Apollo Skylab projects, and providing sketches, concepts and eventually scale clay models. Loewy also contributed to the designs for the 'Star of Hope' satellite
