Note:
Yang Wencong was a native of Guizhou, and his sobriquet name was Longyou. He passed the official examinations in the Wanli era and became an official in the military office. He was a pedagogue with special interest in antiquities, and painted landscapes particularly well. Not only was Yang closely acquainted with the Sijunzi of the late Ming, but he was also a member of the Nine Painter Friends. The novel 'Legend of the Plum Blossom Fan' by Kong Shangren describes the love story between Hou Fangyu and Li Xiangjun, and the fan which lends itself to the title of the novel was apparently painted by Yang.
