Smith, to the President of the Valley Forge Association, Philadelphia, 14 October 1878. [With:] A reprint of Washington's book plate.
George Washington's closing from a personal letter "I am always & affectly Yours" with signature and the words "turn over" in Washington's hand. This fragment has been tipped to a letter from Joseph P. Smith of Philadelphia to the President of the Valley Forge Association, regarding the enclosed bookplate "which has been taken from the original in his possession (purchased some years since from members of the 'Washington Family') to be placed in the museum of the association." The back of the bookplate is inscribed "From original plate in possession of Wm. Alexn Smith NY. Rec'd by him from Gen. L[und] Washington of Harrison, Va."
