2 volumes, 8o (232 x 144 mm). Engraved frontispiece by Praker after I. Taylor in volume one and 86 engraved plates, including twenty-seven double-page and six folding. (Some occasional spotting and light browning.) Modern calf. Provenance: Charles Taylor (signatures on titles).

FIRST EDITION of this scarce pattern book. The designs in volume one are arranged from simple to ornate, with 26 by Milton, 8 by Crunden, 19 by Columbani and 1 by T.C. Overton. All of the designs in volume two are by Baldwin, who also engraved the plates. His ornate plates show front and side views and several are multiple measured depictions of various mantle-pieces. Many of the designs in both volumes incorporate over-mantle paintings or mirrors. Baldwin's continuation of the first work is very scarce. See Colvin, Biographical Dictionary of British Architects, pp.242, 231. (2)
