Lot Essay

Fidelys Schey, maitre in 1777.
Fidelys Schey worked from a shop in the rue Faubourg-Saint Antoine in Paris with a saleroom adjacent, run by his wife. He mainly produced mahogany and mahogany-veneered furniture. The restrained taste of this piece is similar to the grecian-taste of furniture supplied to the Château de Fontainebleau in 1786. One very similar table which possibly formed part of this 1786 delivery was sold by Lord Elphinstone, Christie's London, 9 June 1994, lot 55 (£19,550).
