Claude first exhibited at the Salon in 1861 and won medals in 1866, 1869 and 1872. Although also a landscape and still-life painter, he is best known for his hunting scenes in the forest at Chantilly. He lived in Paris and also worked for a while in England. He exhibited seven pictures at the Paris Universal Exibition of 1900 and was awarded the Légion d'Honneur.
