Francois Flameng, the son of the artist, Léopold Flameng, studied under Cabanel, Hédouin and J.P. Laurens. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1873, won the Silver Medal in 1879 and the Gold Medal in 1889. He was made a Commander of the Légion d'Honneur and a Member of the Paris Institute in 1905. Flameng painted a number of important society portraits, including one of Princess Alexandria. His work is represented in a number of major public collections, including the Musée d'Art Moderne and the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Paris.
