Lot Essay

The present painting can be attributed to Pynacker by comparison with a number of similar landscapes dating to the latter portion of his life. These include a signed panel offered in these Rooms on 13 January 1987, lot 121, and An italianate landscape, signed with initials, offered at Sotheby's New York, 3 July 1996, lot 3 (dated by Dr. Laurie Harwood to circa 1670).
