Lot Essay

The Master of the Warsaw Tondo was an eclectic painter who based his compositions on works by Lorenzo di Credi (Florence 1459-1437) and Filippino Lippi (c. 1457-1504). At present, only eight paintings are known by him, the eponymous work belongong to the National Museum in Warsaw.

We are grateful to Mr. Everett Fahy for suggesting the attribution, having seen the painting in person.
