Lot Essay

Microanalysis shows the wood of this joined stool to be bald cypress. While this wood is found as far north as the Delaware Bay area, it existed in greater quantity along the Atlantic coast toward Charleston. Accordingly, this form is among an extremely rare group of early southern furniture.
