AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED RHYTON
Circa 350-340 B.C.
Molded in the form of a mule's head, wearing a tightly-fitted, elaborate bridle with decorative rings throughout, the teeth visible in the open mouth, with flaring nostrils, and a ridged mane between the high pointed ears, the bowl with an everted rim, with a woman in profile to the left seated on a rocky outcrop, a phiale in her raised right hand, her left arm at her side, rosettes and a fillet in the field, large palmette complexes on either side of the handle, a band of wave on the rim
