AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED RHYTON
Circa 360-350 B.C.
Molded in the form of a bull's head, with a modelled poll, the wavy hair incised, black-glazed except for the eyes which are reserved, the irises and pupils in black, the horns, a spot on the head and the edge of the ears in added white, the dewlap undulating, the bowl with an everted rim, with a draped woman moving to the left but looking back, a filled basket in her right hand, a cake in her left, rosettes in the field, large palmettes on either side of the handle, a band of short lines on the rim
