AN EGYPTIAN BASALT FIGURE WITH A BASIN
Late Period, Dynasty XXVI, 664-525 B.C.
Depicting a kneeling official offering a ritual vessel, his hands resting on the rim, with a well-modelled face and prominent ears, wearing a wide wig, inscribed in hieroglyphic text on the back pillar for "the count, the overseer of the entrance to the hill countries, the chief supervisor of the Shrines [of Neith] Wahibre, the son of Paeftchaway...," the rim of the vessel inscribed with, among other benefactions, "health and all good things..."
