AN EGYPTIAN PAINTED AND GILT CARTONNAGE ENSEMBLE
Late Ptolemaic to Early Roman Period, Circa 1st Century B.C.-1st Century A.D.
Consisting of four elements, the mask with a gilt face, false beard, and broad collar, the chest piece depicting a falcon-headed scarab pushing a solar disk and falcon-terminal broad collar, the leg piece with winged solar disk, djed and tyet amulets, four Sons of Horus, a column of hieroglyphic text containing the offering formula and including a wish for attainment of ripe old age for Ptah-neb-hesm(?)..., framed by Isis and Nephthys, the foot piece with sandals
6 in. (15.2 cm) high for the foot piece; 18¾ in. (47.6 cm) high for the leg piece; 10 7/8 in. (27.6 cm) high for the chest piece; 14½ in. (36.8 cm) high for the mask
