A ROMAN MARBLE FIGURE OF INFANT BACCHUS
Circa Late 1st-Early 2nd Century A.D.
The youthful figure depicted nude but for an animal skin draped over his left shoulder and arm, its paw curving forward and resting on his thigh, a bandolier punctuated by rosettes worn diagonally over his left shoulder, cradling a cornucopia laden with grapes in his left arm, his head inclined to his left, a deeply drilled fillet of vine leaves and berries in his center-parted hair, one tie falling on to his right shoulder
