TWO MESOPOTAMIAN CUNEIFORM FOUNDATION CONES
Circa 1953-1895 B.C.
Each of tapering conical form with a flat flaring head, one from the reign of Ishma-Dagan, circa 1953-1935 B.C., the spike and the head each inscribed in two columns with the same inscription, one line inadvertently omitted from the spike, the inscription reading "Ishma-Dagan, mighty man, king of Isin, king of the four world regions, when he cancelled the taxes of Nippur, the city beloved of Enlil, and released its men from government service, he built the city wall of Isin. The name of that wall is: Ishma-Dagan is mighty with Enlil"; and one from the reign of Abi-saré, circa 1905-1895 B.C., the spike and the head each inscribed with eight lines of the same inscription reading, "For Nanna, his lord, Abi-Saré, mighty man, king of Larsa, built the wall of Ishkun-sîn and restored it"
