"Elaine Haxton and her husband Richard....fell in love with the bush and the blue of Pittwater when they bought thier Clareville house site about 1950.. the Clareville house was central to her artistic achievement, experimentation and ambition..she mused "it's the light, it gives form to whatever you are doing...it is a beautiful area" (p Coombes Elaine Haxton, Sydney, 1990, p.40 & P.46)
