Made for Dom Antonio Caetano Luis de Sousa (born 1690), the fourth Marquis of Minas and seventh Count of Prado, and great-great-grandson of D. Francisco de Sousa, Governor of Bahia in 1591, and discoverer of the first gold mines in Brazil. See N. de Castro, op. cit., p. 99
