Provenance
These sample panels, lots 85 and 86, were acquired at a bankruptcy auction of Louis C. Tiffany's warehouse inventory in the late 1930s. This sale included windows, lampshades, and various medium, as well as corporate records belonging to Tiffany. The panels were placed thereafter in storage until the early 1950s, at which time they were acquired by a collector. The panels have been owned by this family since then.

Lot Essay

cf. Alastair Duncan, Tiffany at Auction, 1981, p. 160 and Robert Koch, Louis C. Tiffany, Rebel in Glass, 1964, pl. iii and p. 186 for illustrations of other showroom samples.

Lots 85 and 86 offered here represent sample sections of three leaded glass lampshade designs used by the Tiffany Studios showroom. Bronze tags on each sample panel identify the diameter, name and model number of these lampshades, with the exception of the model number on the 'Peacock' shade sample.
