Lot Essay

In 1963 Feiler was made head of painting at the West of England College of Art in Bristol. The artist was spending four to six months each year painting in Cornwall exploring and developing a formal non-objectivity, with pure colour sparingly used in a heavily larded white surface, the circle was developed into groups of concentric circles with varying contrasts of colour and tone (see T. Cross, Painting the Warmth of the Sun, Penzance, 1984, p. 169).
