A SUMERIAN WHITE MARBLE CYLINDER SEAL
Early Dynastic IIIb to Early Akkadian, Circa 2400-2200 B.C.
Carved in bold and detailed style with contest scenes, composed of a lion crossing a bull with a human face, its head turned frontal, the lion biting a nude hero to the right as he grapples with it, the hero with much hair and a big beard, his face turned frontal, on the left an upright bull with a human head and a long plait of hair grabs the other bull-man by the horn and right fore-leg, and to their left a nude hero with spiky hair holds a spotted feline by the hind-legs, a star and lunar crescent in the sky, with a snake, a falling horned animal, an antelope head, a bovine head and a boomerang as fillers, the terminal with two crossing, wrestling heroes, supporting each other with one arm around the other's neck and both gripping the other's ankle, their bearded heads turned frontal, one with a single large eye, with a six-pointed star of two arrow-heads, a tripartite motif, and a figure-8 as fillers
