A SYRIAN HAEMATITE CYLINDER SEAL
Circa 1900-1700 B.C.
With a Lama goddess standing in the center wearing a horned tiara and long flounced robe, raising both hands, facing a priest in a medium-length robe which is open at the front, a hooked object in his lowered left hand, behind the goddess a belted hero with long flowing hair and beard, a stream of water flowing from his shoulder, a vessel and ball-staff between the goddess and priest as fillers, a flying bird above the hero, with a minor scene consisting of two facing seated figures raising their cups toward each other, a winged griffin below, with remains of the original bronze mount within the perforation
