The present work, executed in 1931, is a study for the final version entitled Red Night (New England City) in the collection of the New Jersey State Museum, Trenton, New Jersey. A letter dated 15 February 2001 from Professor Jeffrey R. Hayes discussing the work accompanies the lot.
