Lot Essay

We are grateful to Frances Stenlake for her assistance preparing the following catalogue entry.

Bevan was brought up at Horsgate, his parents' house in Cuckfield, West Sussex. He returned to the village to paint on several occasions, his last known visit being in 1914. The present work shows Horsgate Farm, just South of the big house.

For another work by the artist see lot 137.
