The sinking of the S.S.Birkenhead

The S.S.Birkenhead struck a reef on the 25th of February 1852 at the Cape of Agullus. 192 women and children were saved when dispatched to the lifeboats .However, the 500 soldiers and 134 crew stayed at their posts and were drowned when the ship went down.
