signed on the first draw-tube G & C. DIXEY. late Fraser 3, New Bond Strt London Opticians to the KING and engraved on the other side in gothic script H.D.R., the 2¾in. (7cm.) diameter object lens with gilt-brass mount, in the stained ivory, waisted body-tube, the eyepiece lens within a small stained ivory mount (cracked) -- 7½in. (19cm.) long extended; and a small 1 5/8in. (4.2cm.) diameter 18th-Century heavily-stained ivory monocular magnifier

Lot Essay

Clifton records George & Charles Dixey as working from 3 New Bond Street between 1825-38. The "Fraser" in the inscription is Alexander Fraser, who with other members of his family, worked from the same address during the first quarter of the nineteenth century.
